Named after the slang for Baijing China, the Peking caddis is a representation of the case builder, that makes a shell from river bottom debris, while in its larval form to both camoflage and protect it from predation. So named because of the use of chinese hen feathers in its construction. Use a dubbing loop to create bulk over the body and tease out with a velcro brush. Grayling key in on cased caddis and wait bellow riffles for waterborn larva to float free of the bottom and into their mouthes.
Grayling candy for sure! I have seen stomaches of grayling chock full of cases - thinking they were on a diet of pure river sediment. We fish this pattern dead drift under an indicator fly such as a stimulator or convertible, and swing it over dropoffs and riffles. The takes are soft and unending. Enjoy.
